Pink and Orange Socks

Yarn: Ty-Dy Socks, colorway #1289
Pattern: My plain vanilla sock pattern
Needles: #1 (2.25mm) dpns

Comments: I like pink and orange together. Think '70s Flower Child. But you normally don't see them in the same garment. When I started these socks, I wasn't sure I liked the drab colors that went with them, particularly the gold. Still not sure.

Some are winners, some are not.

Bits of Yarn

This could make a decorative addition to a felted bag. Or used as a pin. Or just tacked to my inspiration board.
Pattern: Knitted Flower Embellishment from Black Dog Knits. I don't see this pattern on her blog any more; I had printed it out some time ago. Nora has a fabulous blog and simply elegant patterns. As designer, she's Black Dog Designs on Ravelry, but I don't see the pattern there, either.
Yarn: Farbo Gastrike yarn from Sweden, I think.
Needles: ??
Comments: I knit the pattern as written but did not twist it into a spiral as directed. If you find the pattern online, let me know and I will add the link to this post.



Interesting color combination in this project using square needles.

Guinifer has posted on her blog a neat video of her youngsters' band playing Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever." She said it always brought tears to her eyes. And it does to mine.

Hederas--With Shoes

As promised, only not in high heels, the Hederas in their new life:Of course, I hiked up the pant legs to show you how the socks fit. Although high water pants may be back in style (it's the Geek influence), these are not those.
This is a really nice pattern. But I may be too impatient to knit lace.
Are there impatient lace patterns out there?

My Hederas

Yarn: Wildfoote Luxury Sock Yarn (75% Washable Wool/25% Nylon), Colorway SY-42 Mistletoe
Pattern: Hedera, by Cookie A.
Needles: #1 (2.25mm) dpns
Comments: I made the smaller size (60 st.) and am glad I did. They looked skimpy before blocking, but blocked out quite nicely.

Also shown is the Verona shawl in progress. The colors on both projects--which I love--are close enough to be worn together, especially since they will be worn on the north and south parts of a person (me). A camera battery issue prohibited me from taking shots of the socks on my feet, so I'll try to get those posted tomorrow.

The Hedera (the word translated: ivy) pattern is not difficult, although it looks complicated. The heel part seemed endless. I may not be a budding lace knitter as I was relieved to be done with these socks.

The Judge thinks they are beautiful, and that's the final verdict.

Enjoy the Ride

When I was at Borealis Yarn, I didn't have my Verona shawl project with me. But this sock yarn looked so like the colorway in my shawl that it was destined to come home with me.

It's definitely lace, dear folks. Maybe if I do enough of it I will learn to love--or at least like--it. One shouldn't expect to memorize the pattern first round, right? The holes are somewhat unequal, and so it feels a bit "lopsided." Will I like wearing these? I hope so. These socks will be for Spring and Fall (year to be determined), worn with the shawl/scarf.

By now you must realize I have been suffering from a severe case of startitis. My apologies, but at this stage of the disease I won't promise you will see finished projects for awhile.

Just have another cup of coffee with me and do as I am doing. Enjoying the ride.
